Vercel's AI gateway data, published Thursday, gives the first hard numbers behind the buzz around Jev, a decision model from TypeSafe AI. Within two weeks of its September 15 limited release, Jev was being used by 35% of paid teams on the platform, nearly double the reach of Sonnet 5.5. Vercel says this is the fastest adoption any model has seen in its first two weeks.

The data comes from Vercel's unified API service, which is a necessarily limited view and may undercount major labs like OpenAI and Anthropic that run their own APIs. Still, it suggests the early enthusiasm translated into real usage. Jev is designed as a lightweight tool for choosing between a few predetermined outputs, which makes it cheaper and faster than alternatives and well suited for classifying large volumes of data.

The report also shows continued momentum for open-source models, which now account for more than 70% of tokens processed through the gateway and nearly 25% of total spend. At the same time, spending on frontier labs has grown tenfold even as its share of overall spend shrinks, suggesting frontier and open-source models may be complementary rather than competing.
