The iPhone Duo isn't available for preorder until later in October, but it may already have its first breakout app. According to TechCrunch, indie developer Vidit Bhargava has been showing off Duo-Man, an app that recreates the experience of using a classic Walkman by taking advantage of the foldable's two screens. Users open the device to pick music and "insert" a cassette, then close it to start listening.

Bhargava built the app at a Bitrig hackathon, where it won second place, and recorded button clicks and static noise from a real Walkman to make the experience feel authentic. After he posted about it on X, the demo quickly attracted attention, topping 1.8 million views and nearly 10,000 likes.

The attention has pushed Bhargava to turn what was initially a hackathon project into a real app. When it launches, Duo-Man will support Apple Music and local files, and will include a feature that lets users use an Apple Pencil to "roll" the cassette loop. Fast-forward and rewind are planned to mimic the original Walkman, with Spotify support possibly added later. The app also taps into a broader retro trend, as younger consumers seek out classic physical tech like cassette tapes and flip phones.
