Microsoft has officially announced Xbox Mythic Achievements, a new tier of recognition that works much like Sony's PlayStation Platinum trophies. Players unlock a Mythic Achievement once they have earned every original achievement for a game. The feature is already rolling out to Xbox Insiders for testing, with the company noting that eligible games completed in the past, including Xbox 360 titles, will be retroactively marked as Mythic when players next visit their profiles.
Alongside the new achievement tier, Xbox is updating the profile experience with a dedicated gaming tab for tracking Gamerscore milestones and Mythic Achievements. Each game's achievement list will also gain a progress bar showing how close a player is to Mythic status, with an option to focus on the original achievements still needed. The feature was first spotted in a leak of the Xbox PC app last week, which included a unique unlock sound.
The announcement comes just weeks after Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said the platform would receive a platinum trophy equivalent later this year. With testing now underway, Microsoft appears to be moving quickly to close a long-standing gap between its achievement system and the one offered by PlayStation.
