Amazon and Constellation have signed a 20-year power purchase agreement backing the expansion and renovation of the Calvert Cliffs Clean Energy Center in Maryland, the state's sole nuclear plant and its largest source of clean energy. The deal, reported by Utility Dive, supports more than $3 billion in infrastructure work at the 1,790-MW facility and roughly 190 MW of new generating capacity expected to come online between 2030 and 2032.

Under the PPA, Amazon will receive 690 MW from the plant, including the uprate. A separate retail supply agreement will support Amazon's operations in the PJM market, though all electricity from Calvert Cliffs will continue to flow into the PJM regional grid. Constellation said the revenue certainty from the deal allows it to relicense the plant for another two decades and develop new clean energy plants at the site.

The plant generates about 80% of Maryland's clean energy and powers roughly 1.3 million homes, according to the release. Constellation has signed similar nuclear PPAs with Walmart and Meta, reflecting growing interest from large energy buyers in existing nuclear generation. The companies said the agreement helps Amazon manage regional energy costs, and an AWS executive said it strengthens the grid and supports hundreds of jobs.
