BMW's next-generation iX1 has been spotted testing at the Nürburgring, showing a design that closely resembles a smaller version of the new iX3. The prototype wears camouflage but appears to adopt BMW's Neue Klasse styling, including a slimmer front face instead of the traditional oversized kidney grille. The automaker seems to be skipping a mid-cycle facelift and moving straight to a second-generation model.

The iX1 will shift from the current platform shared with the gasoline X1 to BMW's dedicated Neue Klasse EV architecture. That switch is expected to bring significant gains in driving range, efficiency, and charging speed. For reference, the current 2026 iX1 eDrive20 and xDrive30 offer WLTP ranges of up to 512 km (318 miles) and 417 km (259 miles), respectively.

Inside, the new iX1 is expected to feature BMW's latest digital cockpit, including a 17.9-inch central touchscreen and a Panoramic Vision 3D head-up display. BMW has also confirmed plans for a new entry-level electric model on the Neue Klasse platform in 2028, likely called the i1, as a sedan sibling to the iX1. The iX1 itself will not be sold in the US.
