BYD has opened blind pre-orders for the second-generation Seagull, a larger and more refined version of its ultra-affordable EV. The new model, which will be sold as the "Great Seagull" in China, is expected to launch by the end of 2026, according to the company's Ocean series general manager.
Regulatory filings show the new Seagull is 4,205 mm long—a 425 mm increase over the current model—with a longer wheelbase and a more powerful 95 kW rear-mounted motor, up from 55 kW. It also adds premium touches like ambient lighting, massaging front seats, and a larger infotainment display, while dropping the traditional instrument cluster in favor of a center-screen readout.
The Seagull has been one of the world's best-selling EVs, with over 212,000 units sold through August. The upgrade comes as competitors introduce new entry-level models, and BYD is expected to offer its latest Blade Batteries and flash charging on higher trims. Overseas versions, likely as Dolphin Surf or Mini variants, are expected after the China launch.
