Exelon’s Climate Change Investment Initiative, known as 2c2i and launched in 2019 with a $20 million remit, has made a minority investment in Continuum Industries, an AI-powered transmission and infrastructure planning company. The fund typically invests between $100,000 and $300,000 in equity, and it has added Continuum to its portfolio and startup cohort.

Continuum’s Optioneer platform is designed to help companies plan grid connections, site plans, and automated environmental risk and land impact analysis, and to map project constraints. As part of the deal, Optioneer is expected to be deployed across Exelon’s utility companies, which operate across five states and the District of Columbia in the PJM interconnection region. “As demand for electricity continues to rise, utilities and developers need a repeatable and consistent approach to planning and delivering infrastructure predictably and efficiently,” Continuum CEO Grzegorz Marecki said.

Faith Davis, 2c2i lead, said the fund was drawn to Continuum by the growth and opportunity in its market, the founding team’s technical expertise, and the company’s customers and pipeline. Davis said Exelon is looking for ways to make transmission planning quicker and more efficient amid load growth. Continuum says its platform has screened more than 420,000 miles of infrastructure alternatives.
