Solid-state battery developer Factorial Energy has announced a new partnership with Mitsui Kinzoku, a materials company that is among the few producers of sulfide-based solid electrolytes. The collaboration is aimed at scaling up the technology, which has long been viewed as a potential step forward for battery performance.

Mitsui's role is significant because sulfide-based electrolytes are a key component in many solid-state battery designs, yet production remains limited to a small number of firms. By working directly with a supplier, Factorial may be able to secure the materials needed to move from development to larger-scale manufacturing.

The deal marks another major collaboration for Factorial, according to the report, though details on production volumes or timelines were not disclosed. The announcement adds to a growing list of corporate tie-ups in the solid-state battery space, as companies race to commercialize the technology.
