Geely has unveiled a fifth-generation fast charging system that it says can counteract one of fast charging's main downsides. According to the company, its "lithium-ion pulse restoration technology" sends micro-pulse currents through cells to reactivate lithium ions that accumulate on the anode during rapid charging, potentially boosting cycle life by up to 20%.
The system was announced alongside a 2.25 MW charger. In tests, a battery used in the Lynk & Co 10 and Zeekr 001 went from 10% to 70% in 4 minutes 30 seconds and to 97% in 8 minutes 40 seconds. Geely also says a home charging strategy can gradually repair degradation overnight.
The charging is managed by Xingrui PowerMind, an AI model developed with StepFun. It forecasts battery temperature up to 30 seconds ahead and adjusts current and cooling to keep average temperature around 55°C and peak under 65°C. Geely also introduced a 6C battery for cheaper models, aiming to bring 10-minute-class charging to more affordable EVs.
