Finding enough open land for solar is a growing challenge in cities and suburbs. A new 11-megawatt plant in Elgin, Illinois, addresses that by using a high-density racking system to fit inside a constrained, irregular parcel, as reported by CleanTechnica.
High-density racking lets developers install more panels in a given area than conventional layouts. That extra capacity was essential here, where the site's shape and size would have made a standard ground-mount array impractical.
The project is an example of how creative engineering can unlock space for community solar in built-up areas. If tight parcels can be used efficiently, more towns may be able to host solar without sacrificing farmland or large open tracts.
