Hyundai and Kia, which share a corporate group but sell separate models, are both expanding into large electric vans. Hyundai has opened orders for its new electric van at roughly $66,500, positioning it as a nine-passenger vehicle bigger than Kia's PV5 and the Volkswagen ID. Buzz. Kia, meanwhile, is betting that its larger vans will dominate its EV van lineup.

Kia says it expects the PV7 and PV9 to outsell the PV5 combined, as part of a wider target to sell 250,000 electric vans by 2030. The PV7, newly unveiled, stretches more than 17.5 feet long and can carry nine people or substantial cargo. It was recently photographed during testing in the US, shortly after Kia's official reveal.

The two companies' announcements align on the appeal of roomy electric vans for people and freight, but they differ in strategy: Hyundai is starting sales now with a single model, while Kia is planning a family of vans with higher sales ambitions. Neither source suggests the vehicles are direct competitors yet, though both are clearly chasing the same emerging segment.
