Hyundai appears to be road-testing a new compact electric SUV. A camouflaged prototype was spotted in South Korea, and its boxy, upright shape suggests a more traditional SUV than the recently launched IONIQ 3, which uses a sleeker "aero hatch" design. Hyundai has not confirmed the vehicle's name; it could be the IONIQ 4 or the IONIQ 1.
At its August CEO Investor Day, Hyundai said it would launch 100 new or refreshed vehicles by 2030, including a global B-segment SUV and a European B-segment SUV. The spotted prototype is thought to be one of those models. A test tag reading "HE1" led Chinese outlet Autohome to suggest it is the IONIQ 1, while earlier reports expected the B-segment model to be the IONIQ 4.
The vehicle is expected to be similar to the Kia EV3, with a boxy design and likely the same battery options: 58.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh packs, offering WLTP ranges up to 214 miles and 308 miles. A brief look at the interior reportedly showed Hyundai's new Pleos Connect infotainment system. Official details are still pending.
