A federal judge has reinstated the $7 billion Solar for All program, ruling that the Environmental Protection Agency acted illegally when it terminated the initiative. The decision, reported by Utility Dive, determined that the EPA's cancellation ran counter to what Congress intended and was unsupported by any other legal authority.
The judge, a Trump appointee, rejected the EPA's position that the One Big Beautiful Bill Act had converted the funding into a discretionary lump sum. Because the law did not give the agency that flexibility, the court found the termination unlawful.
The ruling restores the Solar for All program, which the EPA had previously cut. It marks a notable legal setback for the agency's rollback of clean energy funding.
