Meta has entered into a power purchase agreement with Apex Clean Energy for a 144-megawatt solar project in Gonzales County, Texas. Under the deal, Meta receives the financial value of the electricity generated, and Apex says the project depended on Meta's commitment to move forward.

The renewable purchase is notable, but it does not mean Meta's data centers are running entirely on solar. Inside Climate News reports that the company is still using natural gas to power some of its facilities, so the agreement represents a partial step rather than a complete shift away from fossil fuels.

The arrangement reflects a common pattern for large technology companies: long-term contracts can bring new solar or wind projects online, yet the buyer's overall electricity mix may still include conventional generation. The Texas solar farm adds clean capacity to the grid, but Meta's data center energy demand remains far broader than this single project can satisfy.
