After nearly a decade away from the US electric vehicle market, Mitsubishi is back with the 2027 Eclipse Sportback EV. The company announced a starting price of $37,745, or $39,740 with destination, making it almost $8,000 more expensive than the base Nissan Leaf S+ it is closely related to.
Under the skin, the Eclipse Sportback is essentially a rebadged Leaf, sharing the same platform and 75 kWh liquid-cooled battery. Despite the shared hardware, the Mitsubishi is rated at up to 282 miles of EPA range, while the base Leaf S+ manages up to 303 miles. Both cars use a native NACS port for Tesla Supercharger access and support 150 kW DC fast charging, with a 10-80% charge taking about 35 minutes.
Mitsubishi says the Eclipse Sportback stands out with its own styling and a standard dual 14.3-inch display setup, while the base Leaf has dual 12.3-inch screens. The new model is the first product under Mitsubishi's Momentum 2030 North American plan, which calls for at least one new or refreshed vehicle each year through fiscal 2030.
Electrek's analysis notes that the price also exceeds several popular EVs, including the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Toyota bZ, and the Kia EV3, which offers more range for less money. That makes the Eclipse Sportback a tough sell despite its equipment, according to the outlet.
