Nio's battery-swap network in China set another milestone during the National Day holiday, performing 1,192,221 swaps between October 1 and 7. The company's roughly 4,100 stations handled the demand with a daily average nearly 22% higher than the same period a year earlier, according to a holiday charging and battery swap report released on Friday.
The energy delivered through those swaps totaled more than 24.83 million kWh, with highway travelers accounting for a substantial share of demand. Nio has been setting records throughout the year, including six-figure swap days during the Lunar New Year celebrations, but this week's numbers are the largest yet.
For drivers, the process takes three to five minutes and requires no handling of cables or waiting at charging stalls. The article argues that the convenience, multiplied by as many as 175,000 swaps in a single day, demonstrates battery swapping can rival traditional refueling infrastructure at scale—at least in the Chinese market where Nio's network is concentrated.
