Rivian is continuing its tradition of Halloween vehicle updates with a Ghostbusters theme for 2026. The update, rolling out as version 2026.36.0 on the R1 and 2026.36.40 on the R2, adds optional cosmetic changes to the vehicle interface, including new light sequences, sounds, and an eerie voice for the voice assistant. It also includes a scavenger hunt for hidden characters and a Ghostbusters-themed game playable on the center display while parked.
The update extends beyond the car itself: Rivian’s mobile and watch apps can control the costumes, and the screens at Rivian charging stations get a spooky touch. The feature is active from October 9 through November 2. Rivian also created a one-off ECTO-R1, dressing an R1S like the Ghostbusters’ Ectomobile, and filmed a short Halloween spot featuring actor Bill Murray. This follows previous years’ themes such as Swamp Thing, Knight Rider, and Back to the Future, with David Hasselhoff appearing in the Knight Rider update.
