Prinoth, a maker of winter equipment, is partnering with Swedish truck manufacturer Scania to power two battery-electric snow groomers for European ski slopes. Scania will supply its Core 800 lithium-ion battery system, a 691-volt solution with integrated liquid cooling and a proprietary charging management system. The packs are modular and scalable, ranging from 21 kWh to 624 kWh, which Prinoth says is enough to keep grooming runs throughout the day.
The new machines are an electrified version of the Prinoth Husky and the recently announced Leitwolf E-Motion. The Leitwolf E-Motion places the Scania battery packs in both top and side orientations to meet higher energy and power requirements, broadening the range of heavy-duty applications. Scania's industrial batteries are already used in mining, construction, agriculture, logistics, energy storage, and airport ground support.
The partnership is not new: the first Scania-equipped Prinoth snow groomers hit the slopes in 2022. According to the companies, those zero-emission machines have repeatedly demonstrated capability and even superiority in extreme cold. Scania's Elin Åkerström noted that snow groomers operate in very low temperatures and steep terrain, requiring batteries that deliver high power, withstand cold, and handle vibrations. Prinoth's Roberto Pegoraro said the collaboration continues because of the high quality of Scania's battery systems, tested in challenging conditions, and Scania's technical expertise and commitment to improving the products.
