VinFast announced at the APTA TRANSform & EXPO in Chicago that it plans to put electric buses on US streets, with deliveries of US-approved vehicles expected to begin in Q1 2028. The Vietnamese EV maker's pitch goes beyond the buses themselves, bundling charging, maintenance, and operations into a single package for transit agencies and fleet operators.
The plan includes an initial agreement with NexMove, a joint venture between Transportation Management Services and Zeem Solutions. NexMove intends to offer a service agreement promising 97% uptime. VinFast says around 2,000 of its electric buses already operate in Vietnam. The buses feature LFP batteries, fast charging, and camera and radar driver alerts, but the announcement did not specify US models, range, prices, or charging speeds.
NexMove plans to place demonstration buses at Zeem charging depots, though those vehicles will not yet have US approval. The partners also aim to develop US manufacturing that meets Federal Transit Administration requirements, but no location or production schedule was announced. Zeem CEO Paul Gioupis said his team visited VinFast's manufacturing operations and was impressed by the scale and quality of production, calling it a proven product with real operating history.
