Volkswagen has again delayed the US return of its ID. Buzz electric minibus, now aiming for the 2028 model year. The company informed dealers on September 24, according to an Automotive News report, after previously planning to skip the 2026 model year and move straight to the 2027 version. A Volkswagen spokesperson had insisted in December that the ID. Buzz was not being canceled for the US.
The delay follows weak demand. The ID. Buzz starts at about $60,000 and offers up to 234 miles of range, while competitors like the Kia EV9 and Hyundai IONIQ 9 exceed 300 miles. Volkswagen sold just 6,140 ID. Buzz units in the US last year, leaving an overflow of inventory at dealers.
Earlier this year, Volkswagen had announced updates for the 2027 ID. Buzz, including a Tourer model for overnight stays and NACS charging capability. Cars.com now lists only 38 new 2025 ID. Buzz models available nationwide. The related ID.4 is also not receiving a 2027 model year as the automaker revamps its electric vehicle lineup.
