Volkswagen has launched a long-wheelbase (LWB) version of its ID. Buzz Cargo electric van, responding to recent entries like Kia's PV7 and PV5. The new variant is aimed at business users who need more space than the standard ID. Buzz, while keeping the same retro-styled electric platform.
The LWB Cargo measures 4,962 mm long with a 3,239 mm wheelbase, extending interior length by 250 mm and adding 0.5 m³ of load volume. A wood floor and a second sliding door come as standard, and the door is 19 cm wider to fit a Euro pallet through the side. Depending on configuration, payload is up to 700 kg for rear-wheel drive and 606 kg for all-wheel drive.
Power comes from an 86 kWh battery, expected to deliver nearly 300 miles on the WLTP cycle, up from 277 miles in the standard 79 kWh version. The AWD 4MOTION model produces 250 kW (335 hp), compared with 210 kW in the standard van. All new ID. Buzz models get Volkswagen's latest ID. software, including optional Travel Assist, one-pedal driving, and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability for using the van as a mobile power source.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles opened pre-orders on September 23 for the AWD version at €50,630 (about $58,000), while the RWD model will go on sale next week starting at €48,490 (about $55,000).
