Volkswagen has issued another recall for its ID.4 electric SUV, this time covering 22,524 vehicles from model years 2023 to 2026. The company told NHTSA on October 6 that charging the high-voltage battery beyond 80% in certain models could trigger thermal propagation, which can lead to a fire. The root cause is still under investigation.

Until a remedy is available, VW is asking owners to limit charging to 80%. The recall follows an earlier campaign that affected nearly 100,000 EVs globally, including about 44,000 ID.4s in the US. VW has received 22 claims related to the issue between January 2024 and August 2026.

The company is working on a fix and will mail owner notification letters on November 27, 2026. The NHTSA campaign number is 26V630. VW also requested additional clarifications from battery supplier SK Battery America about production and a potential clean date.
