Volkswagen's new low-cost electric vehicles have attracted nearly 150,000 orders in Europe since production began in June, according to the company. The lineup, including the ID. Polo and ID. Cross, starts at around €25,000, and the group says European EV orders are up 60% year-over-year.
However, the European success hasn't offset losses elsewhere. Through September, VW Group's global EV deliveries fell 5.4% to 678,700 units. U.S. deliveries plunged 78.4% after the federal tax credit expired and tariffs were added, while China saw a 42.5% drop amid intense competition from domestic makers like BYD.
The company is adjusting production to meet higher European demand, but it also faces a broader cost-cutting plan that includes up to 100,000 job cuts. The new models are a key part of VW's strategy to counter Chinese rivals, yet the overall market remains challenging.
