A buyer has commissioned a special edition of the Kubb Fanless mini PC with a solid 24-carat gold passive chassis, according to Fanless Tech via Tom's Hardware. The price is around $1.7 million, and the weight increases from 4.6 pounds to 28.7 pounds, making the compact 5-inch system far less portable.
The gold case is not purely decorative: gold's thermal conductivity is roughly 30-50% higher than aluminum, which could help the Intel Core Ultra chip run cooler under passive cooling. However, the article's comparison chart shows copper (385 W/m K) and silver (406) both beat gold (314), so gold is not the best material for heat transfer alone.
The underlying specs remain modest: up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 358H or AMD Ryzen AI 5 340, 128GB DDR5, and dual M.2 SSDs. Standard aluminum Kubb Fanless models are listed at €1,595 ($1,822) but are out of stock, making the gold version an extreme premium for a niche collector.
