Acer chairperson and CEO Jason Chen has dismissed memory industry warnings of a 2030 shortage as a margin-protection tactic. He expects PC prices to stabilize in the first half of next year and then start declining toward the latter part of 2027.
Chen argues that memory makers are predicting high prices because they want to keep their margins high for as long as possible. He attributes the coming price drop to cheaper Chinese memory capacity coming online, which he says will deliver lower memory prices and, in turn, cheaper PCs.
These are Chen's projections rather than confirmed market data, and they depend on Chinese suppliers actually ramping production as expected. If his timeline holds, consumers could see meaningful relief by late 2027.
