AMD has released FSR 4.1 for a much wider range of hardware than the RX 9000 cards it launched with. The update is available today for Radeon RX 6000-series GPUs, Ryzen AI Max and AI 9 devices, and Ryzen Z-series handhelds via the Radeon Adrenalin 26.10.1 driver. Tom's Hardware notes that AMD had originally promised RX 6000 support for early 2027, making this an early arrival; The Verge frames it as part of a pledge to bring the tech to older GPUs and handhelds this year.

To make FSR 4.1 work on older silicon, AMD reworked the neural network to run on INT8 shader hardware instead of the FP8 matrix acceleration in RX 9000 cards, according to Tom's Hardware. The handheld-specific model is less than half the size of the full version. In Tom's Hardware's testing with an RX 6900 XT at 4K in Cyberpunk 2077, FSR 4 cost about 13% performance in Balanced mode, though the improved quality could let players use Performance mode instead. The Verge quotes AMD's Jack Huynh saying the team "didn't just bring it over, we made it better."

Xbox Series X and S owners will have to wait longer. Both sources say the console version is "coming soon" and will arrive through OEM-specific updates, as will support for Ryzen Z2 handhelds. Tom's Hardware also reports that FSR Frame Generation now has better frame pacing, Vulkan support is planned, and Ray Regeneration is available now in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. The Verge adds that FSR 4.1 supports more than 300 games and could have a significant impact on the less powerful Xbox Series S.
