ServeTheHome's review of the ASRock Rack SORANOD8-2L2T positions it as a straightforward SP6 motherboard for AMD's EPYC 8005 "Sorano" lineup. Sorano replaces the EPYC 8004 "Siena" series, trading Zen 4c cores for full Zen 5 cores while keeping up to 84 cores and 96 PCIe Gen5 lanes. The board is also backward compatible with EPYC 8004 after a BIOS update, and it exposes the platform's I/O through four PCIe x16 Gen5 slots, one PCIe x8 Gen5 slot, two M.2 Gen5 sockets, and two MCIO connectors.
The "2L2T" name refers to the two pairs of network adapters: a pair of Intel X710 10GbE ports and a pair of Intel I210 1GbE ports. Beyond that, the motherboard is deliberately sparse, which ServeTheHome says is typical of ASRock Rack's server designs. Its 12-inch by 10-inch dimensions are slightly wider than the ATX specification, so builders should confirm their cases accept the board.
The most unusual design choice is memory. SP6 is natively a six-channel platform, but ASRock Rack installed eight DDR5 RDIMM slots, using blue slots for the first DIMMs and black slots for the second DIMMs on two channels. This gives the board up to 2TB of capacity, but it means the board behaves like a 2DPC design and tops out at DDR5-5200 rather than the DDR5-6400 possible with a 1DPC layout.
