The 12VHPWR connector on Nvidia's RTX 5090 has been prone to overheating, often because poor pin contact creates resistance and uneven current distribution. A Reddit user, u/DallasGrave, posted a custom fix: a power distributor screwed to the back of the GPU that splits the load across more wires soldered directly to the card's power rails.
The distributor routes power to two female 8-pin connectors instead of the 16-pin 12VHPWR connector. In a stress test, the card pulled 550W for 48 hours, and the modder says the joint never exceeded 40°C. The part appears resin-printed and custom-made for the specific card; it's not known if it includes capacitors or fuses.
The modder is associated with GRAVEPC.com and claims a PNY-specific version could be sold with full warranty because GRAVEPC is a PNY partner. Tom's Hardware cautions that PNY has not been reliable about honoring warranties for third-party cables, so that claim is unverified. The mod is invasive, requiring soldering, and is not currently listed on the website.
