Denuvo, the company behind the widely used anti-tamper technology for games, has filed a lawsuit against an anonymous cracker known as 'voices38'. The suit alleges that the individual bypassed Denuvo's protections in 26 different games, according to Tom's Hardware.

What sets this case apart is the legal strategy. Rather than pursuing traditional copyright infringement, Denuvo is relying on the Digital Millennium Copyright Act's anti-circumvention provisions. That shifts the focus from unauthorized copying to the act of breaking the protection itself, which can be a lower bar for the plaintiff to clear in some jurisdictions.

The outcome could have broader implications for the DRM and game preservation debate. If Denuvo succeeds, it may embolden other protection vendors to pursue similar claims directly against anonymous crackers, potentially changing how circumvention tools are distributed and discussed online.
