Dyfed-Powys Police has disclosed a cyberattack that knocked some non-emergency systems offline. The force identified the incident on September 14, and while emergency policing, 999, and 101 phone services were unaffected, online and email contact were unavailable for a period before being restored.
Investigators are now trying to determine whether the intruders accessed staff data. The force said its investigation has found no evidence that members of the public's personal data was compromised, but it is continuing to check whether employee information may have been accessed. It has notified the Information Commissioner's Office and brought in cybersecurity specialists to apply precautionary measures.
The investigation is being managed by Tarian, the regional organized crime unit covering the three southern Welsh police force areas, through its regional cybercrime unit. No details have been released yet on who was behind the attack, how they gained access, or whether ransomware was involved. The force said it is taking all appropriate steps to protect information and maintain system security.
