EV charging company Xeal plans to deploy 100,000 Nvidia GPUs in pods across its existing U.S. roadside network, according to Tom's Hardware. The company describes the project as the world's first edge inference compute network built on idle EV charging capacity.
The idea is to repurpose charging infrastructure as distributed compute sites, placing AI inference workloads closer to where data is generated rather than concentrating them in central data centers. Xeal says it would use its current U.S. footprint to host the GPUs.
The proposal is notable because it combines EV infrastructure with AI compute demand, though the report does not provide details on timeline, power management, or cooling for the GPU pods.
