Tom's Hardware reports that FADU has built an 'FS-SSD' that moves filesystem processing into the SSD itself. By packing NFSv3 file operations inside NVMe commands, the drive can serve file reads directly to GPUs, DPUs, and NICs, avoiding the host CPU and the host filesystem.

The idea is to offload storage software overhead from servers running data-heavy workloads. Instead of a CPU managing file lookups and metadata, the SSD handles file semantics as part of its flash management. The drive is built on PCIe 6.0, and FADU claims it can deliver 460,000 ops/s to GPUs and DPUs.

FADU says engineering samples are due by Q3 2027. As with any pre-production hardware, specs and timelines may change, and the source provides no independent benchmark results, so the claimed performance is company-provided.
