Following the Dutch National Police's arrest of a 24-year-old described as one of the alleged leaders, Leatherman said the bureau knows how to find the others and suggested they reach out first while the choice is still theirs. He noted that arrests change who is willing to talk and that seized infrastructure reveals who is left.
Dutch police said the suspect's laptop contained a large amount of information, including details about two murders planned abroad, with indications the suspect ordered them. The FBI assisted in the arrest, and the bureau said it seized electronic devices and that more arrests are possible.
ShinyHunters has claimed responsibility for the FBIJobs.gov hack, saying it stole sensitive personal details of current, former, and prospective FBI employees. A spokesperson told The Register the intrusion was not financially motivated, but rather an attempt to get the FBI to correct or retract what the group called substantial false allegations. In a later interview, the spokesperson described the hack as protecting the group's business and reputation, saying, "It's about who does their job better."
