According to Tom's Hardware, OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra cleared the Orc starting area in World of Warcraft in 40 minutes with zero deaths. The run was done through agent-wow, an open-source AzerothCore client designed for autonomous AI agents. The model never saw a rendered frame; it worked at the protocol layer, polling server messages and sending actions back over the game's network protocol.

Quest givers, turn-ins, and spawn points were pulled from AzerothCore's SQL files. The developer said this is arguably similar to a human spending hours on Wowhead, though the server's own files are the data the server runs on. The agent also used a C++ pathfinding helper built on AzerothCore's navigation meshes, and it was able to exploit map bugs where collision properties were lacking.

GPT-6 Astra ran with extra high reasoning effort, one below the highest. The developer chose WoW for its mix of long-term strategy and short-term tactics. This is not the model's first game: shortly after release it played Portal with screenshots over about 24 hours. The WoW run used no screenshots and covered only the first zone.

Next steps are testing whether a single agent can reach level 80 on its own and whether multiple agents can team up to clear Icecrown Citadel on heroic difficulty.
