According to a Pew Research Center survey reported by The Register, 51 percent of American adults say they never use chatbots, making non-users a narrow majority. Usage is highest among 18-to-29-year-olds at 66 percent, while roughly three-quarters of adults aged 65 and older abstain. Even among the youngest group, a third say they never use these tools.
Among non-users, lack of interest is the dominant reason, cited as a major factor by six in ten. Concerns about data privacy and answer accuracy follow. Only about a third say not knowing how to use them is a major factor, and fewer than one in five cite social stigma.
The survey also found that non-users are more likely to be white, Black, or Hispanic than Asian. Resistance looks durable: 67 percent of non-users say they are unlikely to use chatbots in the next year, including 40 percent who say they are not at all likely to change their minds. Just 5 percent think they will probably try one.}
