Tom's Hardware spoke with two modders who have been unlocking Nvidia's ringfenced DLSS features for older GPUs. Dashdogy, an Australian physics student, spent a week with an AWS instance to get Multi Frame Generation running on Ada Lovelace hardware. The key was intercepting Streamline and NGX calls in memory, spoofing the frame-generation limit so an RTX 40-series GPU believes it is allowed to generate five frames rather than one.

Separately, RTX Remix modder Uncle Burrito targeted DLSS 5 Neural Rendering after its DLL appeared in NBA 2K27. With help from Claude, they reverse-engineered the DLL and ported it to Ada in less than a day. The modder said most of the code was compatible and Ada support looked like unfinished work rather than a hard limit.

Nvidia has since said Neural Rendering will be supported on RTX 4000 GPUs, which supports that view. The two foundational mods have become the basis for further ports, including back to 2018 Turing GPUs and, for Neural Rendering, to AMD hardware. The source notes that the mods are now easy to install in hundreds of games via community tools.
