Huawei has shelved plans to sell its latest AI hardware internationally, saying it cannot keep up with demand inside China. The company will focus its current production capacity on domestic customers, effectively pausing its global expansion in AI accelerators for now.
The hardware in question is built around Atlas clusters that combine 15,488 chips with optical networking. Huawei positions this setup as a direct alternative to Nvidia-based infrastructure, and the company says the system can scale to 120 EFLOPS. That scale is aimed at large AI training workloads, though no international availability timeline was given.
This move highlights how constrained Huawei's advanced chip supply remains, even as it pushes to compete with Nvidia. With domestic orders absorbing output, the company's ability to challenge Nvidia in overseas markets will depend on future capacity expansion.
