Micron has introduced 512GB DDR5 memory modules with speeds up to 9200 MT/s and a power draw of 16W. The modules enable up to 12TB of memory per server, giving hyperscalers a new option for high-density workloads.
This marks the first direct competitor to Samsung's 512GB DDR5 modules, which have been on the market for about five years. Micron claims its approach is 60% less energy-intensive than using four 128GB modules, a significant efficiency gain for large-scale deployments.
However, the source notes that pricing could be too high even for hyperscalers. While the technical specs are impressive, cost may limit adoption until prices come down.
