Microsoft is pruning the OneDrive context menu in File Explorer, removing a set of Copilot shortcuts that were introduced in September 2025. The affected actions include summarizing documents, generating FAQs, comparing files and images, explaining images, extracting text, and asking questions. The rollout begins in mid-November and is expected to finish by early December.

The "Ask Copilot" option will remain, letting users right-click a OneDrive file and start a conversation with it attached. The removed actions will still be accessible in the OneDrive activity center. Microsoft said it is simplifying how people use Copilot with their OneDrive files in File Explorer.

The change aligns with a March 2026 statement from Windows chief Pavan Davuluri about reducing unnecessary Copilot entry points. The File Explorer context menu has also been criticized for being crowded and sluggish, and Microsoft is working on an overhaul to make it less cluttered.
