Nvidia's DLSS 5 Neural Rendering officially launched this month for RTX 50-series GPUs, but modders have already built an unofficial port for AMD Radeon hardware. A GitHub project called DLSS-NR-on-AMD reimplements the neural network runtime from scratch for AMD architectures, targeting Radeon RX 9000 and RX 7000 series cards in DirectX 12 games that support FSR.

Early testing by YouTube channel Ancient Gameplays showed the mod taking a heavy toll on performance. In Cyberpunk 2077 at 3440x1440, the latest Alpha 0.4.0 build reached around 50 FPS on a Radeon RX 9070 XT, up from roughly 30 FPS in an earlier build but still well below the over-80 FPS the game achieves without Neural Rendering. The developer claims the two alpha releases delivered a combined performance improvement of about 74% in 24 hours.

The project has also become easier to install with the AMDNR launcher, which automates DLL setup and offers extra options through OptiScaler. The mod remains in alpha, so performance and compatibility vary by game and GPU, and the developer says another major update is in the works.
