Tom's Hardware reports that a Reddit user, /u/Melodic_Initial_1767, says PNY refused warranty service for a melted GeForce RTX 5090. The card was connected with the native 12V-2x6 cable from an ASRock PG-1600G power supply. The user says the card was running a stock BIOS, no overclock, and a manually reduced power limit, and that it failed while idle.
PNY reportedly told the user that only a PNY-approved power cable or adapter included in the box is covered under warranty, and that damage from third-party cables is the responsibility of the cable or PSU maker. Tom's Hardware notes that the warranty terms don't appear to mention 12VHPWR or 12V-2x6 cables, and that no list of approved cables is visible on PNY's website. The card also did not ship with a 16-pin cable, so the included-cable requirement would have been impossible to meet.
Others in the Reddit thread point out that ASRock's PSU has a 10-year warranty and a TempGuard feature meant to monitor 12V-2x6 connector temperature. They advise contacting ASRock rather than accepting PNY's decision. Tom's Hardware adds that PNY may be trying to avoid paying out because RTX 5090 cards are scarce and expensive to replace.
