According to The Register, the Munich Regional Court has issued an injunction against SAP over certain features of its Signavio product, following a patent challenge from process mining company Celonis. The patent covers technology for determining the lead time between process stages of a process instance. The court also ordered SAP to supply more information and financial statements about the alleged infringement. The ruling applies to implementations in Germany.
SAP responded by saying the ruling relates to one specific function within SAP Signavio Process Intelligence, not the product as a whole. The company maintained that Signavio Process Intelligence remains available to customers and that S/4HANA Cloud migrations are not affected. SAP said it disagrees with the Munich court's decision, has appealed, and is separately challenging the validity of the asserted patent before Germany's Federal Patent Court.
The injunction is part of a broader legal tussle between the two companies. Celonis filed a US lawsuit in California last year claiming SAP made it harder for third-party software to access customer data, and a trial is set for September 2027. SAP has also brought patent claims against Celonis in Germany and Delaware, while Celonis has pursued cases in Texas and elsewhere.
