SiPearl, a fabless European chip designer, has sent the first samples of its Rhea1 CPU to Bull, which will use them for the JUPITER supercomputer. The company frames the handoff as a significant milestone in bringing high-performance, energy-efficient processors to sovereign supercomputing, AI, and data-center applications.
Bull, which works in advanced computing and AI, is the recipient of the early silicon. Rhea1 is part of SiPearl's strategy to supply European-designed processors, though SiPearl itself does not operate fabs and relies on semiconductor manufacturing partners.
The announcement does not include benchmark figures, sample quantities, or a timeline for when Rhea1-equipped parts of JUPITER will enter service. As a single vendor announcement, it leaves open how the hardware performs in practice. Still, the delivery represents a concrete step toward European control of critical supercomputing technology.
