Overdrive, a homebrew storefront for jailbroken PS5s, offered more than 1,600 PS4 and PS5 games as free downloads. It was released on GitHub on October 9 and initially drew little attention. After a demonstration by Edigax on X on October 12, the project went viral, with the post reportedly receiving over 7.9 million views and hundreds of comments.

According to Tom's Hardware, Sony Interactive Entertainment's lawyers reportedly sent a cease-and-desist letter to the developer, and the storefront was shut down. The report notes there are no concrete sources for the cease-and-desist. A day later, two GitHub repositories appeared: one a fork of the original, the other a clone under a different account.

The jailbreak community has been active since the Relapse jailbreak's release on September 29, producing emulators, launchers, and streaming apps. The Overdrive library is seen by some as a protest against Sony's digital-only push, with commenters saying "Only digital, as Sony wanted." The report suggests Sony may struggle to permanently remove such projects, as new ones keep appearing.
