According to Alinea Analytics, Steam generated an estimated $1.7 billion in revenue during September 2026, its best September ever and a 13% jump over the previous record set in September 2025. The platform also posted its strongest third quarter on record at roughly $5.5 billion, up 12% year over year. For the first nine months of 2026, Steam's estimated revenue stands at $16.5 billion, compared with $14.5 billion in the same period last year.
Major releases helped drive the month, including Wardogs, which generated an estimated $86.9 million since its early-access launch on September 10, followed by Onimusha: Way of the Sword at $30.4 million and The Blood of Dawnwalker at $26.9 million. Free-to-play titles also remained significant: Counter-Strike 2, Apex Legends, PUBG, and Dota 2 together brought in nearly $168 million, close to 10% of Steam's total monthly revenue.
The record spending comes despite rising PC hardware costs, suggesting higher build prices have not yet slowed game purchases. Steam is also nearing a new annual record for game releases, with 20,220 titles launched as of October 1 and another 1,156 scheduled for October. Alinea estimates Steam could surpass $20 billion in annual revenue for the first time. Valve continues to expand beyond desktop and laptop gaming through the Steam Deck, the newly launched Steam Machine, and broader Steam OS support for additional devices.
