A Register reader in Ireland encountered an unexpected sight while trying to collect a parcel from an OOHPod locker: the screen displayed a minimized Windows command prompt rather than the usual touchscreen interface. Tapping the window maximized it, revealing a full command prompt on the public kiosk.
Fortunately for the operator, no input devices were attached, and the touchscreen did not offer a pop-up keyboard, so the reader could not enter any commands. A second tap dismissed the prompt and restored the normal OOHPod interface, allowing the parcel to be collected without further incident.
The episode underscores how unattended kiosks built on general-purpose operating systems can occasionally expose underlying system components. While this appears to have been a harmless display glitch, it serves as a reminder that such interfaces should be locked down to prevent casual users from seeing—or potentially interacting with—system-level tools.
