According to IPWatchdog, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit issued a decision Friday in Linden v. ResMed, Inc., affirming a ruling from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. The district court had dismissed a patent infringement lawsuit after finding that the asserted claims were not eligible under Section 101.

The dispute centered on a method for treating patients using remote devices. The Federal Circuit agreed with the lower court's Section 101 analysis and upheld the dismissal.

The decision reinforces that patent claims directed to certain treatment methods involving remote technology may be dismissed at an early stage.
