Using artificial intelligence to scan roughly 400,000 Reddit posts, researchers identified a set of symptoms reported by people taking popular GLP-1 weight-loss and diabetes drugs, including Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Zepbound. The symptoms—menstrual changes, chills, hot flashes, and fatigue—are not commonly listed in official prescribing information or highlighted in clinical trials.
The analysis draws on real-world patient language rather than controlled study data. Because the posts are self-reported and unverified, the researchers caution that the medications cannot be confirmed as the cause of these symptoms. Other factors, such as rapid weight loss, underlying conditions, or concurrent medications, could also play a role.
Still, the findings point to a gap between clinical trial outcomes and everyday patient experiences. The authors suggest that monitoring patient forums could help regulators and drugmakers spot rare or delayed side effects earlier, though they stop short of recommending any changes to prescribing guidelines based on this study alone.
