Blue Shield of California is moving toward replicating Medicare's chronic-care payment experiment in its commercial business. The insurer has committed, along with 16 other major health plans, to adopt payment models inspired by the CMS Innovation Center's ACCESS Model, according to STAT.
Chief medical officer Ravi Kavasery told STAT that the company is still working through key details, including whether to use CMS payment amounts and which organizations it will partner with. Blue Shield, which serves about 6 million members, currently expects to launch similar models in its commercial plans in 2027.
The report is based on Kavasery's comments to STAT, so no independent or conflicting accounts are available for comparison.
