FDA clears Medtronic’s LigaSure sealer for use with Hugo robot

Medtronic has received FDA clearance for its LigaSure RAS Maryland jaw vessel sealer-divider to be used with its Hugo robotic-assisted surgery system. The device is designed to seal and divide blood vessels during surgery, and this clearance adds it to the list of instruments available for use with the Hugo platform.
The clearance is notable because it pairs an established energy instrument with a newer robotic system. Rather than requiring surgeons to switch to a different sealer, the decision lets them use the LigaSure tool within Hugo’s robotic workflow.
Medtronic is positioning this as a step toward expanding the ecosystem around Hugo. The company did not disclose a timeline for the device’s commercial availability, and no clinical data were included in the announcement.
